Six Tips For Purchasing A Down Comforter Set

The differences between a good down comforter and a poor one are many. When making your buying decision on bedding then you need to make sure that you know what you are looking for. In this article I give you six tips for making the right choices about your comforter set.

1. A down comforter is measured in the US by something called a “fill power”. When looking for a good down comforter set then generally the higher the fill power the warmer the comforter will be.

2. A poor comforter made from synthetic filling can have uneven warmth and cold spots and worse still can possibly get too warm or too cold. A good down comforter will have even warmth throughout due to the pockets of air built up by the down.

3. A good indicator of the quality of a comforter is the level of stitching on the quilting. Good stitching makes a difference to the level of warmth in a comforter.

4. Some comforters contain more feathers but try to make sure that you you buy one with more down than feathers. This is also a good sign of the quality of what you are buying.

5. It might be a good idea to look at the climate you are living in before you buy. If you live somewhere where hot summers and cold winters are the norm then it would be a good idea to buy two comforters. A heavy fill for the summer and a low fill for the winter.

6. Generally all down comforters come from either Goose or duck. Some people may suffer allergic reactions to feathers and down from these birds so just be sure you are okay before you purchase.

There are a lot of decisions to make when you are looking at purchasing a good down comforter set. I hope the six tips will help you make the right choices. A good set can sometimes cost more but generally if you are looking for the best nights sleep then it is worth it.
