To make sure the natural oils are preserved in the feathers, use a low-sudsing, low alkaline, neutral ph formula laundry soap. A small amount of dish soap can be substituted for laundry soap if you are unable to find some like the soap mentioned above. The duvet bedding should be washed in cool or cold water, again to avoid stripping the natural oils.

Once washed, the duvet bedding should be thoroughly rinsed. Run the rinse cycle 2-3 times to make sure all traces of soap are removed. This will eliminate the risk of clumps, and will keep the duvet soft and fluffy. Make sure the rinse cycle used is on a cool or cold setting.

Take the extra time to dry your duvet bedding on a cool setting. This will eliminate the risks of drying out the feathers. Throw a tennis ball or two into the dryer while you run the cycle to help restore some of the lost loft. Shake and hang the duvet periodically to redistribute the filling.

Wait until the duvet is completely dry, and then throw on a duvet cover. You’re finished. One year down, many more to come.
